Krakow-developed CONTRACK technology recognized in the “Teraz Polska” competition

16.06.2026

The CONTRACK technology, developed in Krakow, has been recognized in the 36th edition of the “Teraz Polska” competition – one of Poland’s most prestigious programs promoting innovation and high-quality products. A notable example of its application is the prefabricated tram switch complex at Warsaw’s Zawisza Square, where the technology significantly shortened construction time and reduced disruptions for residents.

An innovation created in Krakow

The history of CONTRACK began in the Rybitwy district of Krakow. Through the cooperation of companies belonging to the KZN Bieżanów Group, the concept of a modern prefabricated tram turnout system was developed. The goal was to accelerate the construction and modernization of rail infrastructure, improve quality, and enable faster replacement of key components in the future.

From the very beginning, the project was developed by Polish specialists representing a wide range of disciplines, including rail infrastructure design, concrete prefabrication, steel structures, material technologies, and construction. The research and development work was also supported by the National Centre for Research and Development. The result is a comprehensive prefabrication system for tram track layouts that significantly reduces project implementation times.

Polish technology setting new standards

“Thanks to the technology we developed, it was possible to deliver the first prefabricated tram switch complexes in Poland, including the one at Warsaw’s Zawisza Square. Today, the solution is being used in further projects, including in Poznań, where the world’s first prefabricated double-track double tram turnout has been installed. Just a few years ago, many experts considered such solutions impossible to implement,” says Grzegorz Leszczyński, CEO of CONTRACK.

As he emphasizes, the company is already developing new solutions for tramway and railway infrastructure with the potential for implementation across European markets.

The “Teraz Polska” distinction confirms the strength of Polish engineering and innovation, demonstrating that technologies developed in Krakow can set new standards for modern rail transport both in Poland and abroad.
